Sculptured Panels

Carved Panel: Adze pattern - Three-layer solid beech panel
  • Panels start at 8mm thickness
  • Produced to order in special sizes if required
  • Bespoke patterns can be produced to your specific design
  • Can be tileable - the pattern is matched across panels in all directions
  • Supplied unfinished or prefinished with lacquer, oil, wax, paint or flexible laminate
  • Some designs can be supplied carved into solid wood or plywood

Overview

A range of deeply contoured panels usually supplied in the form of deep rout MDF or through-coloured MDF, some designs can also be supplied in the form of solid timber panels (typically 3-layer solid wood panels), or high-quality specialty plywoods  such as beech throughout plywood and maple throughout plywood.

All can be supplied prefinished with clear lacquers of varying sheen/gloss levels, paint or tinted lacquers to match any colour system (e.g. RAL), or laminated in a range of plain, woodgrain, gloss and metallic vinyl laminates.

This list is not exhaustive, and is provided simply to give you an idea as to what can be done for you. In fact, if you can create a particular texture or design, we can convert it to a sculptured panel with deep contours (subject to restraints of the material specified and carving process required).

We look forward to the opportunity to discuss your project!

Information

Technical details (general)

  • Construction:
    • Single or multiple layers of the following materials with one surface machined to a deep, repeating pattern
(Using multiple layers will expose the colours/grain beneath the surface)
    • Reverse of panel is typically grooved or laminated to help minimize bowing due to machining process being performed to one side only - especially important with heavier patterns
  • Material options:
    • Deep rout MDF
    • Single or multiple layers of through-coloured MDF
    • Closed-core plywoods such as ash plywood or beech plywood (best machining results are achieved with unidirectional veneer core)
    • Shallower patterns can be supplied using solid lumber panels (3-layer solid wood panels)
    • Lower quality plywoods such as birch plywood can be machined with some success in certain designs
    • Reverse of MDF panels are typically grooved or laminated - particularly with deeper designs - to help minimize bowing due to machining process being performed to one side only
  • Pattern height:
    • Varies with design - standard minimum = 3mm
  • Standard thickness:
    • Varies with design - standard minimum = 8mm
  • Standard sizes:
    • Produced to order in bespoke sizes
  • Pattern repeat:
    • 2400x1200mm in most cases (where tileable)
  • Special sizes:
    • Determined by material used and quantity required
    • In principle, panels can be supplied up to 3600x1500mm (subject to core availability)
  • Finishing:
    • All items can be supplied raw or coated with various coatings such as clear lacquer or oil
