Madagascar Rosewood is also called Kali, Kararo, Landojan, Landosan M'boul, Mukali, Mukangu, Muna, N'kali, Osan, Tanganyika Nuss and Tutu. The species occur from Guinea to Ethiopia, and is also found in Zambia and Gabon.

Madagascar Rosewood sapwood is pale pink to reddish-brown in color, and not sharply demarcated from the heartwood, which is pale pink to reddish-brown in colour, darkening slightly upon exposure.

The grain of Madagascar Rosewood veneer is usually straight but sometimes wavy and occasionally figured, and texture is fine. The wood is lustrous and the wood has an odour similar to that of cedar.
