Myrtle Burr Veneered Panels & Jointed Veneer

View Myrtle Burr veneered panels & doors in full size

Also called Californian laurel, Oregon myrtle and spice tree, myrtle is the only tree in its family found in the western United States. Its growth is reported to be limited to a margin 160 miles of the Pacific coast, from Oregon, south to southern California and in the Sierra Nevada to central California.

The sapwood of Myrtle is thick and whitish to light brown and not clearly demarcated from the heartwood, which is light brown to greyish brown to an olive colour, with dark streaks.

Myrtle veneer grain is straight or slightly interlocked and may also be wavy or curly. The wood has a strong, spicy odour, and darkens when soaked in water.

While the plain veneer is sometimes made available in the US, in the UK the veneer is only readily available in its burr form.
